This simple design was the start of so many changes in my
career as a calligrapher.
While working at Hobbs & Tolley Studio in D.C., I had
immense difficulty in learning the Copperplate hand.
So, in practicing a capital 'W', I began to turn it into a
shape rather than a letter.
It became an abstraction... easier to manipulate.
I was drawing instead of writing; this was far more
familiar territory for me.
This swan would later become the logo to my company,
Gracestone Calligraphics.
Started in 1997,
Gracestone Calligraphics specializes in calligraphy
and fine art illustration for projects such as
weddings and anniversaries; baptisms; announcements; awards
and certificates; family trees and albums;
resolutions and retirements, as well as hand-wrought
personal calligraphy pieces and quotes.
